How to take care of your toppers, integration systems, and wigs

To care for human hair wigs and toppers properly, gently detangle before washing, wash with cool water and wig-specific shampoo, avoid high heat, and store them on a wig stand or in a breathable bag. Regular deep conditioning and avoiding sleeping in the wig can also extend its lifespan.

Detailed Care Steps:

  1. Detangling:
Before washing, gently detangle the wig or topper using a wide-tooth comb or wig brush, starting from the ends and working your way up.
  2. Washing:
I recommend washing every 6-10 wears. Rinse the wig under cool water to remove any product build-up. Apply a small amount of wig-specific shampoo and gently lather it into the hair, avoiding harsh scrubbing or pulling.
  3. Rinsing:
Rinse thoroughly under cool, running water until all shampoo is removed.
  4. Conditioning:
Apply a wig-specific conditioner and leave it on for a few minutes before rinsing.
  5. Drying:
Avoid using a blow dryer as it can damage the hair. Allow the wig to air dry on a wig stand.
  6. Styling:
If desired, gently style the wig using a wide-tooth comb or wig brush.
  7. Storage:
Store the wig on a wig stand or in a breathable bag to avoid tangling and damage. Keep it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  8. Deep Conditioning:
Perform a deep conditioning treatment once a month to keep the hair healthy and moisturized.
  9. Heat Protection:
When using heat styling tools, do so with caution and at lower heat settings to avoid damage.
  10. Avoid Sleeping in the Wig:
Never wear your wig or topper while sleeping, as this can cause friction and damage.

Care & Maintenance

I recommend washing the human hair wig or topper every 6-10 wears. Before washing your Human Hair Wig or Topper, gently brush out the tangles with the brush I recommended at the time of purchase.

First, wet the hair under cool running water (the bathroom sink works best). Apply the recommended shampoo and lather into the hair going in one direction from top to end. Do not rub hair back and forth, as this will cause tangling. Rinse thoroughly under cool running water.

Apply the recommended conditioner throughout. You can use your fingers or brush to work it through. Leave on for 3 to 5 minutes, then rinse with cool water. Avoid applying directly to the base, as this will cause the hand-tied knots to loosen.

Lay human hair wig or topper onto a towel and wrap, then gently squeeze or pat to remove excess water. Spray with recommended leave-in detangler and brush through gently to remove any tangles.

Dry the inside of the cap before you can put it on a canvas head to style, using t-pins to anchor it. Apply recommended styling products, then blow dry on medium heat using a round boar bristle brush in sections. Keep away from the base to avoid loosening the hand-tied knots.

When dried, use the cool button on the dryer to lock in the style and seal the cuticle on the hair, giving it shine. You can use styling tools to curl or flat iron the hair, no hotter than 325 degrees to maintain the integrity of the hair.

Never wear your wig or topper while sleeping, as this can cause friction and damage. If you have a permanent integration system and must sleep with it in, using a bonnet is very important to protect your hair.

Pro Tips from the Owners

Always dry the hair after washing. Letting it air dry can give the hair an unpolished look and make it frizzy.
